Pete Dye built this one — and it shows. The Canyon Course at Promontory carries every Dye signature: rumpled fairways, deep pot bunkers borrowed from Scotland, and the kind of dirt-sculpting that turns terrain into theatre. Ranked #5 in Utah.
From the tips it stretches to 7,615 yards, more length than most mortals should attempt — but play it from a sane yardage and it's forgiving, with bounces that feed shots back toward the fairway. A Dye course demands shot-making and a thinking approach to play it well, yet Promontory's version stays genuinely playable. It's the sister course to Painted Valley, the second of up to five planned championship courses at the community.
What Stands Out
The Canyon Course is just plain fun to play, and the conditioning in late summer is as good as it gets. Tough enough to test the better player, fair enough that everyone else still has a good time — which is the Dye trick when he's on.
