About The Hills at Promontory Club in Park City, Utah
The Hills is Promontory’s third course and the one that changes how members use the place. A full eighteen holes, every one of them a par 3, designed by Forrest Richardson — and it is a proper golf course rather than a novelty tacked onto the property.
Richardson built it around accuracy, carry and length, which the great William Flynn considered the real hallmarks of design. Take away the driver and what is left is the part of golf that decides most rounds: the shot into the green, and the recovery when you miss.
Eighteen par 3s in about three hours, with shortcuts to build your own loop. It is the most fun you can have at Promontory without a tee time.
— The Park City Golf AuthorityA full round takes roughly three hours, and the routing is built to be broken up — shortcuts let you assemble your own course, and short loops are there for settling a bet or simply carrying on because the light is good and nobody wants to stop.
Alongside it sits Cascade Greens, an eighteen-hole putting course inspired by the Himalayas at St Andrews, and the Golf Academy at Promontory — the GAP — with multiple hitting bays and a TaylorMade fitting studio. Together with Dye Canyon and Nicklaus Painted Valley, it makes Promontory one of the deepest golf properties in the mountain west.
What Stands Out
If you are a member, this is the course you play on a Tuesday evening with three friends and no scorecard. If you are a guest, it is the one you will talk about afterwards — short-course golf done seriously is a genuine pleasure, and The Hills is done very seriously indeed.
